Japanese Researchers Unveil CanguRo Robot, Part-Assistant, Part-Personal Transporation

Robots are cool. If you agree, then you’ll enjoy this short blog.

Researchers from the Chiba Institute of Technology and the Future Robotics Technology Center (fuRo) recently unveiled the CanguRo robot that can help you carry your groceries – or a person can just hop on it for a quick ride. The robot weighs a hefty 141 pounds, and has semi-autonomous driving functionality using image recognition, positioning data, and analyzed real-time mapping.

In addition, it can convert into a three-wheeler that mimics riding a motorcycle”equipped with a throttle to control forward and backward movement. It can run at a maximum speed of 10 kilometers per hour.”

Development is ongoing, and researchers aim to implement voice functionality.

If everything goes well, the CanguRo will possibly be available in 2020.
